Our set up is simple but unique - we have two sources of information:
- our daily feed of music recommendations, and
- our daily Top 5 which we post to our site.
These two complement each other, and here we’re going to walk you through how they do (a more simple explanation can be found with icons on the upper left corner of the page).
1. The Feed
Our team of 4 editors discover music through music industry connections, friends, or from music blogs, and we select from a wide variety of genres, including indie, world, R&B, electronic, pop, hip hop, dance, metal, and experimental.
On a daily basis, we each curate the best of what we find (if we find anything). We each live by one simple rule: if we’re not feeling the track, we don’t post it.
Our recommendations are sent out in real-time via a daily RSS feed. We link to everything from obscure music blogs (large and small) to new MP3s on zSHARE to an artist's MySpace page.
You can receive our recommendations in real-time on Twitter. We also send an email out at the end of the day which includes a summary of the day’s recommendations.
We average about 52 recommendations/week, or just over 10/day. That equals over 200 recommendations/month.
Even for the most passionate musicheads/music nerds out there, we realize that’s a lot of music (it’s arguably a radio station....). And we know you’re not going to agree with all of our picks.
Neither do we.
2. The Site
That’s why we use our site to highlight your and our Top 5 favorites from this feed. Our goal is to curate what we each, and collectively, believe is the best new music online, daily:
- Every Sunday, we post the previous week's Top 5, according to our users' clicks;
- Every Monday, we post YouSleptOn, a weekly Top 5 of tracks an editor feels our users should have clicked on, but according to our data, didn't. Our editors rotate their posts on a weekly basis; and,
- Tuesday through Friday, each editor posts his favorite Top 5 from the previous week.
Each editor’s weekly Top 5 is one music lover's take on what constitutes the best of a week's worth of music recommendations. Their Top 5 shows what their favorites were of their recommendations, and often from one or more of the other editors.
Here’s a schedule of when each one of us posts, and links to descriptions of what they like:
- Sun/Mon: Top 5 User Recs
- Mon: YouSleptOn
- Tues: Greg's Top 5 (for a sense of what Greg likes, click here)
- Wed: Andrew's Top 5 (for a sense of what Andrew likes, click here)
- Thurs: DJ Foreign Domestic's Top 5 (for a sense of what DJ ForeignDomestic likes, click here)
- Fri: Ant's Top 5 (for a sense of what Ant likes, click here)
Last, you see we use Typepad (for now), but we’re not a music blog (though we do post opinions on occasion).
We believe our unique combination of Website and Feed that complement each other provides a simple solution for finding new music online, and provides you, our users, a launchpad into exploring and discovering new music across the Internet.
Please let us know what you think and how we can improve!
And of course, thank you for you support, whether you’re a follower on Twitter or a regular to the website.
Best,
Your iHearditOn.com Editors

Hi, my name is Luke, I work for a Brooklyn-based marketing/publicity company called Audible Treats (www.audibletreats.com). We cover a lot of hip hop and underground/indie hip hop acts, specifically Illmind of Fortilive. I just saw your latest post about his remix (of that Common track) and was wondering if you would like to receive our future blasts and press releases for Illmind/Fortilive and, depending on what you like/post, the other artists on our roster, which you can check out here: www.audibletreats.com/download.
If you'd like to check out what we've done with Fortilive, you can view a few of our recent press releases here:
