I grew up in Central New Jersey, in a town called Bridgewater, during the early 90s. My nascent interest in music occurred while I was in middle-school, when my identity was as ambiguous as ever. I didn't miraculously start listening to independent bands at the time like Pavement or Yo La Tengo, or even other underground genres of the time - that would be a work-in-progress. Rather, things manifested due to the culture I immersed myself in: primarily skateboarding and punk rock. That was the foundation of my life, and if you were to ask my why I am the way I am today, I'd answer it was because of those two things. This new found perspective on life, that anyone who was willing to let go of their egos for a moment and do things based on their intrinsic value, was truly seminal for me.
Presently, I'm always on the lookout for music that's for starters different - something that's not repeating too much on history - and visceral. A good example to what I mean - not a new band by any means - is Joy Division. The first time I heard them I was like "who is this guy with this deep-ass voice trying to sing?" But the more I listened to their music, I began to understand what was going on with their music under the surface. From that point on their music began to render itself entrancing.
How do I find this sort of music? Well, it starts with blogs such as Pitchfork or gorillavsbear, and yes, iHearditOn.com. When I find a song I like I usually research the hell out of the band: Wikipedia, MySpace...etc. I'll see what other albums they have, what label they're on (anyone else on their label I'd be interested in); you know, just try to see if I'd consider buying their album. Also, if you're at work and have speakers, tune into kexp.org or pandora.com; it's a great way to keep you up to date on the music scene and fine-tune your taste in music. Another method is word of mouth from my friends. As much as I think I'm on top of the music scene, there is always one of my friends that might suggest something that hasn't crossed my path yet.
So that's me. More importantly, enjoy the music we have to offer...I sure as hell do.

I just released my new mashup, PT.3 - "Old School Meets New School" and I would love if everyone gave it a listen! This is the 3rd part of my 4 part mashup/mixtape that will span over 2 hours of continuous music with different themes, so I am really excited about this project and I just want as many people as possible to hear it and get the word out as I start booking dates for the fall.
There is more info here,

I'm writing to ask if you could do a blurb about Monica Rush, she's really on the Electro-Dub-Funk-Disco scene in NYC and has been hanging out with ATrak, Roxy Cottontail, Diplo (www.monicarush.com), (www.myspace.com/monicarushmusic). DJ Class is producing a lot of tracks on her next record and we were hoping you could do a quick 'getting to know' her post. Two cool things to possibly post on - 1. a vid of her new single 100 doLLa biLL (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GMOYn6I7z4) which is playing around New York City's DJ sets - 2. she also has a pretty funny and clever viral video out that might be of interest. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzDleUMVUO8). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
