This week we've got another favorite blogger and fellow musichead as our guest - we're thrilled to have Dee Phunk of Treesforbreakfast.com!
Dee knows what's bubbling to the surface, and what's hot - he aggregates his picks for best new art / music / culture daily. Check him out, there's a TON there - you can get started with his 4th and 5th picks below...
Thank you Dee!- Jesse Boykins III, “Chanel” (Machinedrum) (mp3) (Dee: Machinedrum can do NO wrong. His album Want To 1 2? was one of the top releases of this year. And we all know how talented JB III is. I know for a fact Machinedrum is doing a number of joints for JB III's sophomore effort...; Ant: machine drums cosmic soundscapes make this joint other worldly)
- Michael Jackson, The Thriller Demos, (compilation) (ZSHARE) (Dee: I mean c'mon, why would we NOT want to hear the seedlings for one of the best albums in history?; Ant: this is very rare but this a collection of the thriller demos. partake)
- The Clipse, “Doorman” (mp3) (Dee: I am a HUGE Clipse fan. But that's not what brings me joy here. It's hearing Pharrell doing such bouncy gutter-tastic beats again.; Ant: This joint is Flosstactuclar! Let your chain hang low to this one, lol.)
- Jake One & Mara TK, "Look What You've Done To Me" (mp3) (ZSHARE) (Dee: Electric Wire Hustle-mana is in full effect. Peep a loose track from 2007 that features the lucid vocal stylings EWH's frontman Mara TK.)
- Elucid, The Sub Bass Diet EP (Stream) (Download) (Dee: What do you get when you take an aggressive grizzly bear and put him in a dark room w/ a strobe light, a note pad and a lazer gun?)
About Dee Phunk
After roughly eight years as a full-time senior designer at a marketing company in Midtown Manhattan, Dee Phunk is now a self-employed graphic artist (and full-time hustler) working from the cozy confines of his apartment in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.
When he's not busy doing design work to pay the bills via his way-below-the-radar Dropheavy stamp (www.dropheavy.net), he's logging hours as one of the members of New York-based event promotion crew Rare Form (www.rareformnyc.com) who are most notably recognized for their annual Donuts Are Forever event (www.donutsareforever.com), a tribute to the late, great James "J Dilla" Yancey. And when there's time to spare, Dee happily and solely maintains his art / music / culture blog Trees for Breakfast (www.treesforbreakfast.com).
